FAQS

Study in Italy — Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — completely. Italian public universities offer hundreds of fully English-taught Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Architecture, and MBBS at universities including Politecnico di Milano, University of Trento, and University of Bologna are taught entirely in English. You do not need any Italian to apply or begin your studies. Learning some conversational Italian helps with daily life, but it is not a requirement for the programmes we recommend to Pakistani students.

Italian public university tuition is income-based. International students from Pakistan typically pay between €800 and €4,000 per year — dramatically lower than the UK (£15,000–£40,000/year) or Australia (AUD 25,000–50,000/year). Students who qualify for DSU regional grants may have tuition waived entirely and receive a monthly living stipend. We calculate your expected tuition contribution as part of your free consultation.

Universitaly is the Italian Ministry’s online portal where Pakistani students must complete a pre-enrolment before the Italian Embassy in Islamabad issues a student visa. This step is mandatory — you cannot obtain an Italian student visa without it, even with a valid university offer letter. The process involves submitting attested academic documents through the Italian Embassy in Islamabad for validation. This is the most common reason Pakistani students face delays or refusals on Italy visa applications. Global Migration Advisors manages this for every student we work with.

Yes. Italian medical degrees (Laurea Magistrale in Medicine and Surgery) from accredited Italian universities are recognised by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), WHO, and ECFMG. Graduates must pass the PMC MDCAT licensing exam upon return to practise in Pakistan. The 6-year English-medium MBBS programmes at universities like Pavia, Bologna, and Sapienza are excellent options for Pakistani pre-med students who also want to explore the USMLE pathway for international practice.

Yes. Italian student visas permit part-time work of up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and full-time during university holidays. The minimum hourly wage in Italy is approximately €9–€11/hour, which covers a significant portion of living expenses. Students typically find part-time work in restaurants, retail, delivery, or as teaching assistants. English-medium roles are widely available in Milan and other major cities.

Most English-taught programmes require IELTS 6.0–6.5 overall, or equivalent in PTE (50–58), Duolingo (100–110), or TOEFL (80–90). Some undergraduate programmes at less competitive universities accept IELTS 5.5. Engineering and science programmes may require higher scores. Certain universities accept official English-medium school leaving certificates as an alternative to standardised tests. If your score needs improvement, our IELTS and Spoken English coaching team can prepare you before your application.

Most Italian universities have two intakes: September/October (autumn) and February/March (spring). The autumn intake is the primary intake with the most available places. Applications for autumn typically open January–March and close April–June, depending on the university. The Universitaly pre-enrolment window aligns with these timelines. We track all application and pre-enrolment deadlines on your behalf so you never miss a window.
